Releases » It has arrived!
By Josh on Sunday, February 14th, 2010
After a (very) long wait, and many hours of development, I’m proud to announce the new Ajax IM 4.0!
Ajax IM has been truly rebuilt from the bottom up, implementing the latest libraries, techniques, and shininess including jQuery, local session storage (using HTML5 or Flash), Node.js, and much more.
The new 4.0 has been specifically developed for integration into existing websites (unlike <=3.42), and works across pages — no matter how those pages are setup! Lots of documentation is available (and even more is in the works), allowing you to get started with Ajax IM right away.
While the new site is being set up, please excuse any broken links or unusual issues. If you do happen to find a major problem, let me know and I’ll fix it right away.
You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.
It looks awesome. Does it still support chat rooms with multiple people?
Alex: Currently, it does not. It may in the future, but there are currently no plans for this feature.
Awesome! And using local storage is a very nice trick.
Is there any plan to support other storage engines, especially nosql ones?
Kudos to you, I’ve been looking for a Ning-like chat bar for ages.
Frank: Right now, the plan is to start by getting Ajax IM stable, then creating integration libraries for various popular CMSes. It’s quite likely that I will look at creating database libraries for other storage engines in the future.
I’m running a PHPBB forum, and was wondering how difficult it would be to integrate the user list for the new AjaxIM into the user list for the forum, so that once a user signs up for the forum, they’d be automatically signed up for the chat.
Really great job… This update enlights my day
Thanks !
Best news ever. Thank you.
Slayer: The new Ajax IM was built for just this purpose. You will need to create a “server” script which pulls the user list and authentication from the phpBB database; see the Custom Servers page in the documentation.
How scalable is that chat ? Can it support 10K users at the same time ? What’s the upper limit ?
This is absolutely awesome. Thank you for your big aford.
Its Ajax IM working on iexplorer too?
Hey Josh. Awesome script you have here. I’ve been interested in this since Branch3, and now im looking forward to Stable4. Are there any plans for Drupal6 Integration?
Thanks.
